This website is owned, managed, and published by Women In Technology and Innovation Africa (WITIA), a non-governmental organisation registered in Kenya and dedicated to promoting gender equality in technology and innovation across Africa. Please read the following Terms of Use carefully before using this Website.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using this Website, you confirm that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms under the laws of Kenya. If you are under 18 years of age, you may only use this Website with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian.

If you are accessing the Website on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

2. Changes to Terms

WITIA reserves the right to modify or update these Terms at any time. We will endeavour to notify users of material changes by posting a notice on the Website or, where appropriate, via email. Any changes will be effective immediately upon posting. Your continued use of the Website after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

3. Use of the Website

3.1 Permitted Use

You agree to use this Website only for lawful purposes and in a manner consistent with WITIA's mission to empower women in technology and innovation. Specifically, you agree to:

  • Use the Website for lawful purposes only, in compliance with all applicable Kenyan laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018 and the Kenya Information and Communications Act.
  • Refrain from engaging in any activity that could harm, overburden, or impair the Website or its infrastructure.
  • Not attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Website, its servers, or connected systems.
  • Not use automated means (including bots, scrapers, or crawlers) to collect data or content from the Website without WITIA's prior written consent.
  • Not use the Website to transmit unsolicited communications, spam, or any content that is harmful, defamatory, or in violation of applicable law.

3.2 User Accounts

If you create an account on the Website, you are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.
  • All activities that occur under your account.
  • Notifying WITIA immediately at info@witia.africa if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account.

WITIA shall not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to safeguard your account credentials.

4. Membership

4.1 Membership Plans

WITIA offers membership plans to individuals and organisations who wish to support or be part of our community. The following conditions apply:

  • Membership fees, where applicable, are billed annually in advance.
  • Membership must be manually renewed each year; it does not renew automatically.
  • WITIA reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue membership plans at any time, with reasonable notice where possible.

4.2 Refunds

All membership fees are non-refundable except where required by Kenyan law or at WITIA's sole discretion. If you believe you are entitled to a refund, please contact us at info@witia.africa within 14 days of payment.

5. Event Registration and Consent to Use of Data

When you register for any WITIA event; including workshops, hackathons, summits, training programmes, or community meetups; you acknowledge and consent to the following:

  • The personal information you provide during registration (including your name, contact details, organisation, and professional background) may be collected and processed by WITIA.
  • This information may be used for marketing purposes, including notifying you of future WITIA events, programmes, partnerships, and opportunities aligned with our mission.
  • This information may also be used for reporting and accountability purposes, including donor reporting, impact assessments, programme evaluations, and communications with WITIA's partners and funders. In such cases, data may be aggregated or anonymised where appropriate.
  • By registering, you give your express, informed consent to this use of your data as required under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019.
  • You retain the right to withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us at info@witia.africa. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing that occurred prior to the withdrawal.
  • WITIA will not sell your personal data to third parties.

6. Intellectual Property

All content on this Website; including text, graphics, logos, images, programme materials, and software; is the property of WITIA or its licensors and is protected under Kenyan and applicable international intellectual property laws, including the Copyright Act (Cap. 130, Laws of Kenya).

You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from any content on this Website without WITIA's prior written permission.

7. User-Generated Content

Where the Website allows users to submit content (such as comments, profiles, or stories), you retain ownership of that content but grant WITIA a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, display, and share it in connection with our programmes and mission.

You agree not to submit content that is unlawful, defamatory, discriminatory, obscene, or infringes the rights of any third party. WITIA reserves the right to remove any content that violates these Terms.

WITIA is committed to protecting your personal data in accordance with the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019 and the Data Protection (General) Regulations, 2021.
